With strong maritime traditions, oozing charm and character that lies at the mouth of the River Esk. The town's skyline is dominated by the ruins of St. Hilda's Abbey, high on the East Cliff and spreading below is a beautiful harmony of alleyways and narrow streets running down to the busy quayside below and forever associated with Captain Cook and whose dramatic coastal scenery inspired one of the most compelling passages in literature, that of Dracula’s landfall in England. See the beautiful views over Whitby’s beaches and pretty harbour, just down the coast is the stunning and tiny atmospheric Robin Hoods Bay. Further south along the coast is a large freshwater lake, Hornsea Pottery, a Butterfly World and the popular Hornsea Freeport shopping village.
