Other interesting villages are Matlock Baths where you may opt for a cable car ride across the stunning Derwent Valley and Gorge to the Heights of Abraham with its interesting natural caverns.
Perhaps the finest panorama of the entire Matlock area is the High Tor that will take your breath away and is well known by climbers from around the world. Fortunately the summit can be gained by less life-threatening routes than straight up the cliff’s face. Not only are the views magnificent but there are also abandoned lead workings to be explored. An added attraction can be enjoyed during the months of August and October when the Matlock Bath's “Illuminations and Venetian Nights” transform the gorge with thousands of coloured lights and tableaux and the very picturesque magical floating illuminated boats on the Derwent.
