Ilam B&B Guide Derby
You’ll find a whole host of great attractions and a dazzling choice of things to do for all the family.
An ideal location from which to explore the beauty of the Peak National Park, full of rugged hills, lush valleys, rolling rich farmland and the scenic wooded dales are the charming hamlets of Stanhope and Ilam, the latter lies at the lower end of the River Manifold and is arguably one of the prettiest Saxon villages in the Peak District and with the longest history. The village was moved in the 1820s due to its Swiss 'Alpine style'. This perhaps explains both the unusual style of the buildings and the surprising distance between them, the village church and the immediate surroundings offer plenty in the way of outdoor pursuits, from walking and cycling to canoeing, fishing and climbing. Towards the western side of the Peak are the small towns of Shirley and Alkmonton, both offering good accommodation and great bases from which to explore.
