Nestling in the gently sloping Henmore valley set in the heart of Dove Dale and is the gateway to the Peak National Park. Ashbourne is also architecturally impressive, vaunting many fine Georgian buildings and is home to the famous Derwent Crystal Craft Centre providing a full range of beautifully patterned crystal glassware. There are three golf courses, wildlife and nature gardens and a country park to enjoy, also whether you're an accomplished water sportsman or woman or a novice, at the nearby Carsington Waters you’ll find fishing, canoeing with tuition, sailing, windsurfing, rafting and power boating available at the purpose built water sports centre or hire bicycles and explore the region. An elegant Jacobean house built during the reign of Charles II is the majestic Sudbury Hall, its interior was filmed by the BBC for the popular TV drama series “Pride and Prejudice” Television Drama Unit. The Hall’s unique interior decoration includes woodcarving by Grinling Gibbons, superb plasterwork and painted murals and ceilings by Louis Laguerr. Open to the public several days a week, visitors can enjoy the excellent grounds, take refreshments in the tea-room and browse its souvenir shop. If you are looking for total peace, then travel further south and you’ll arrive at the picturesque locality of Clifton.
