  Inn Amenities

The valley is situated within the southern boundary of the Lake District National Park and is famous for its damson orchards, white with blossom in the Spring, heavy with fruit in Autumn.

Although within the Lakeland, the Lyth Valley is off the popular beaten track, yet only five miles from both Kendal and Bowness-on-Windermere, so that you're close enough to the centre of activities but can return to Crosthwaite to relax in comfort, away from it all.

Your hosts at Crosthwaite House, Robin and Marnie Dawson, have been welcoming and taking care of guests in a relaxed and easy-going manner for many happy years, adding up to ensure that your stay will be a memorable one.

Robin has great local knowledge and will provide you with information on walks, tours, producing maps, local weather conditions and even something to do on those damp days.

Apart from the house are two charming self-catering cottages converted from three hundred year old barns. Top bank cottage sleeps two guests, Middle bank cottage sleeps four. Both cottages share their own pretty garden with barbeques and garden furniture.

Crosthwaite House was built in the mid-18th Century, and has been comfortably modernised.

There is a well-appointed dining room with table license, where they serve delicious, traditional, home-style food, prepared by Marnie on the Aga, using local seasonal produce, and fruit from the orchard.

Apart from traditional English dishes, Marnie includes a sprinkling of French and Mediterranean specialties, and is justly famous for her wide selection of delicious puddings.

Guests can relax in the spacious lounge after dinner, and enjoy coffee and conversation, while planning the following day's activities.

There are six bedrooms to choose from, each decorated in a restful colour scheme. The three rooms at the front of the house have sweeping views over the valley, and in the room at the side of the house, a cosy window seat looks into the garden.

The rooms on the opposite side if the house each have their own view over to the charming church nestled in the valley.

Facilities in each room include a shower and toilet en-suite. There is a colour TV, and tea & coffee-making facilities.
