  Inn Amenities

With its comfortable rooms and traditional home cooking, this guest house provides an ideal holiday base for walking and touring in the North West of England.
Airethwaite House is a large Victorian house which has been sympathetically modernised retaining all of its original character. All rooms are en-suite, and have colour television, hair-dryers and tea-making facilities. The rooms are well appointed with antique furniture, original fireplaces and tasteful decoration to period designs. There is ample parking outside the house on our private road. Garaging is available for cycles or motorbikes.
The house was built in 1864, and in the past served variously as a school and chemist’s experimental laboratory. As present owners we have continued with improvements to the house including renovation of the original sash windows and the creation of a new patio and garden, which won the “Kendal Pride” best bed and breakfast garden in 1999. We are situated in the Kendal Green conservation area, with fine views of the fells, yet only five minutes walk from the town centre and seven miles by car from Windermere, the heart of the Lakes. The West Coast, the Scottish Borders and the Yorkshire Dales are all within a day’s striking distance.
Local amenities include many restaurants and pubs, good shops and various museums as well as the Quaker Tapestry Exhibition and the Brewery Arts Centre with its packed and varied programme of events. Not to be missed are the Garden Festival at Holker Hall in June and the September Torchlight Procession. Kendal has an annual Beer Festival and many other events through the year.
Blue Badge Guides offer a programme of walks around the historic town and Kendal’s many “yards” offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. Airethwaite House offers a warm welcome, a comfortable stay and good food.(Typical breakfast includes fruit juice, a choice of cereals and traditional English breakfast with local Cumberland sausage and homemade potato cakes and preserves.)
We are a non-smoking establishment. Guide dogs are accepted. We look forward to meeting you and will do our best to ensure that you get the most enjoyment from your stay.
