Tranna Hill enjoys an enviable rural location on the fringe of the village of Newbiggin-on-Lune in Cumbria. We are literally at the foot of the Howgill fells. Many of our guests enjoy an overnight stay while on the popular Coast-to-Coast walk or on the Dales High Way. Others break their journey on their way to Scotland.

  Policies  

Payment can be made by cash, cheque or BACS payment.

Pets are allowed if accommodated outside the house.

Your room will be ready for you to occupy from 4p.m. It would be appreciated if you can give us an expected time of arrival.

Rooms must be vacated by 10.00 a.m. on the day of departure.

We have 3 rooms, all with views of the Howgills and Wild Boar Fell and are equipped with pine furnishings, refreshment tray, flat screen TV, radio alarm, hairdryer and local information and guides.

Bed and breakfast is from £30.00 per person.
Single occupancy is from £37.00 per person.

We are literally at the foot of the Howgill fells. Many of our guests enjoy an overnight stay while on the popular coast-to-coast walk. Others break their journey on their way to Scotland.

If you are without transport and your preference is to sample the hospitality of a traditional Cumbrian pub we can usually provide you with a complimentary lift to a nearby hostelry where you can enjoy a meal and a drink. Alternatively you can relax in front of our wood burning stove.

While we enjoy an idyllic rural location at the foot of the fells we are only 5 miles from the M6 and are therefore easy to get to. Our location between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National parks makes Tranna Hill a superb base from which to explore both lakes and dales. Alternatively there are amenities on our doorstep that can be enjoyed without using your car - Smardale Gill Nature Reserve and the Howgills.

Our non-smoking accommodation consists of 2 bedrooms, a double and a twin.
Electric blankets with additional bedding available on request. Hair dryer, local information guides and maps.
We offer a varied breakfast menu and ample parking is available for guests.

We have a secluded garden with patio for the use of our guests. Adorned with a pond, stream and waterfall this area enjoys views across the Howgill fells. It is an idyllic place to relax after a day's walking.

Guests can enjoy a hearty breakfast made from locally sourced produce and relax in front of the wood burning stove to plan their activities.

  Area Activities  

There are a wealth of activities and interests in the immediate vicinity of Tranna Hill. Listed below are just some examples...

Hill Walking - We are keen walkers ourselves with a good knowledge of the local area. Newbiggin-on-Lune is surrounded by fells on all sides and offers excellent opportunities for walking. The Howgill fells are nearby and walkers can access the hills direct from the village. A little further afield are the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks which offer walking amid spectacular scenery.

Coast-to-Coast Walk - Tranna Hill is only 0.5 miles from the Coast-to-Coast walk (Orton/Raisbeck to Kirkby Stephen section). This makes Tranna Hill a very convenient point for an overnight stay. Newbiggin-on-Lune - Newbiggin-on-Lune is a small Cumbrian village nestling in a valley at the foot of the Howgill fells. It lies in the parish of Ravenstonedale about five miles from the market town of Kirkby Stephen. The region is classed as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Newbiggin-on-Lune lies between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks.

Ravenstonedale - The picturesque village of Ravenstonedale lies in an area of outstanding natural beauty. While the surroundings are idyllic and offer visitors peace and tranquility Ravenstonedale is an ideal location to explore the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks.

Fishing - The rivers Eden, Belah and Lune are close by for which permits are available locally from Kirkby Stephen Angling Association. The Lake District is within easy driving distance where a wealth of fishing in rivers and lakes is available. Bessy Beck Trout Farm is located at Newbiggin-on-Lune and offers fishing for rainbow trout on 3 well-stocked lakes.

Golf - The Riverside Golf Course, a short 9/18 hole course, lies within the village of Ravenstonedale. The course is open all year
