  Inn Amenities

As a family-run hotel, we take much pride in our reputation for providing comfortable accommodation and good English cooking in a friendly, informal atmosphere.

We are always on hand to welcome you personally on your arrival, and there is ample car parking for all our guests.

We hope that our guests will enjoy the comfortable surroundings and feel relaxed and at home in Ivy House Hotel & Restaurant. We have a log fire in our lounge most evenings. Our table licence enables us to serve drinks from 6pm until after dinner and we have a comprehensive list of wines to enhance your meal. There are some delightful pubs in the village of Hawkshead for those who enjoy a short walk and some real ale.
We have six bedrooms in the main house, and five in Mere Lodge, situated just across the drive. All bedrooms have en suite facilities and are attractively furnished, centrally heated and equipped with colour televisions and hot-drinks trays.

Children are welcome, with cots and high chairs provided where necessary. We have two family rooms located in the main house and we have a total of five ground floor rooms, one in the main house and four in Mere Lodge.

  Area Activities

Ivy House stands in the centre of Hawkshead village deep in the glorious Lake District countryside.

To the east, Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake is just 10 minutes' or so drive away and to the south, Esthwaite Water, a smaller and most peaceful lake is just 10 minutes’ walk. Also, only a mile or so to the north-west of the village is Tarn Hows, one of the most famous of Lake District beauty spots.

Grizedale Forest, covering some 9000 acres, lies to the south, with its Sculpture Trail and its unique Theatre in the Forest. In fact, in whichever direction you choose to walk or drive, you will find magnificent countryside with breathtaking views of mountains, lakes and streams.

The Lake District is an area of outstanding natural beauty which cannot fail to enthral and enchant. Every outdoor pursuit is catered for in the area - from fell walking to fishing, cycling to sailing, putting to ponytrekking. We have recently purchased a Hotel License from Windermere and Ambleside District Angling Association which enables guests to fish their waters, for which no charge is made. Further details of the waters are available on request.

The Lake District is also a haven for photographers, painters and birdwatchers, and there are a wealth of country houses, museums, castles and gardens to visit. In short, there is something here for everyone.

Making Hawkshead your base, it is possible to explore with ease the whole of the area, and one of the family is usually on hand to help you enjoy and make the most of your visit to 'the most beautiful corner of England'
