Some people come to Loch Melfort Hotel to do nothing more strenuous than gaze at the view, sit by a roaring log fire, potter over to see the cows, read a book or fall asleep.

Find your pleasure getting out and about, walking, sailing, fishing, painting, taking photos, bird watching or going further afield and enjoying the spectacular countryside and exciting activities on offer in the Oban and Lorn area.

Perhaps, though, the greatest attraction of our gentle wilderness is simply the chance to relax, to take life slowly in an atmosphere of profound calm. The weather is mild, even in winter, and guests at Loch Melfort hotel (and their pets ) are free to wander as they please through the woods and over the hills. The short walk down to the sea takes you to a sandy, pebbly bay, where mooring is offered for boats of up to thirty-five feet. The neighbouring Arduine Gardens (NTS) are open to the public. They have a world famous display of rhododendrons, azaleas and sikkim primulas in woodland and water gardens which lead to the shore.

Approaching Loch Melfort Hotel from the South, you will have past Craobh Haven the nearest village. Three islands have been linked to the coast with great rock causeways, making a marina, a safe haven for 200 yachts and fishing boats. Island sheltered shore for a couple of miles, is Ardfern Yacht Centre, moorings and marina for 120 yachts and fishing boats. The road runs to within a mile of Craignish point, coming to a dead end at a park with a good view of the Gulf of Corryvreckan, the second biggest whirlpool in the northern hemisphere.
